John Scislowicz and Ric Perry paddled upriver to join the rest of the group as we put in below the dam at Island Lake Recreation Area on November 23, 2018 for our after turkey paddle. It was a fine day for a trip with sunshine and seasonable temperatures. A kingfisher scolded us for invading its territory and mallards that escaped the duck hunters flew away from us downriver. A strong south wind came up in our faces the second half of the trip, and snow on the north facing hillsides reminded us that winter wasn’t far away. But what better way to greet it than on the water?
